June 2005: ONG troops build boardwalk, platform at Sunset Beach
Accessible path to the beach: Oregon Army National Guard troops worked in June and July to complete the west-end trailhead and parking areas. Then the men and women of the Innovative Readiness Training Program carved a path to the dunes and constructed a wheel-chair accessible boardwalk. Their final piece of work was the viewing platform, offering hikers views of Tillamook Head and Seaside to the south and Cape Disappointment and the mouth of the Columbia River to the north.
