Nov. 14, 2005: Trail to the Beach

Kids in coon skin caps and packing Kentucky long rifles were among the hikers.

Mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons cross Sunset Lake on one of the three larger bridges along the hike.

A handful of Boy Scouts made the dedication hike to earn a merit badge. The hikers have just completed the 6.5-mile trek.

Park Superintendent Chip Jenkins gives the thumbs up as hundreds of hikers descend from Clatsop Ridge.

Mary Oberst, Oregon’s First Lady, and Jon Jarvis, regional director for the National Park Service, cross one of the trail’s many waterways.

Posing at the trail’s U.S. Highway 101 underpass, Oregon Department of Transportation staff takes a photo break. The underpass is located two miles from the west end of the trail.

Hikers marching the short distance from the west trailhead parking area to the beach.
